What is it?

- It allows health care practitioners to "pursue more effective health interventions" (Joralemon 2010: 10).
- Cultural competency
is "the training of health care providers in basic knowledge about
cultural differences among patients and skills in cross-cultural
communication" (Brown and Barrett 2010: 13).

understanding how a certain group's cultural and socioeconomic factors influence doctor-patient relationships, cultural competency can allow for a greater understanding between the two parties and an implementation of better healthcare interventions
